Farm Living...Moving cow/calf pairs to the pasture.

Not sure who is the Chief and who is the Indian. They both think they are the Chief which leads to many disagreements. Nick follows baby calves in the trailer, then high tales it on top of coral as Montana brings the Momma cows.

A busy weekend, 32 cows calved in 36 hours!

When I checked the barns on Saturday morning and found seven newly born calves, all in a four hour period, I knew it was going to be busy.   Almost one per hour, insanity!  Also moved 50 cow calf pair to fields by truck and trailer after snow was removed out of field entrances. Crazy, crazy, crazy!

Lost a heifer last night now a an orphan calf

Went out at ten last night and penned a heifer and her new calf. Montana checked at two am, wakes me to say the heifer was dead. Well she choked on her amniotic sac.  A part of the birthing process is for a cow to eat their amniotic sac after their calf is born.  What's the odds of that!

Sunday Fun Day.....4-H bowling & pizza party

Hanging with the Bellevue Pioneers on this fine day. Don't really bowl much, maybe prayers will help my score.

Early out, Nick got chores done which means......snowmobiling tonight!

Went to Bellevue to see Grandma Lucy at the Villa. The Deputy Sheriff block us in the parking lot, a little upset we went through his yard. Good thing he a coworker. Then to Moe's for Jimmy Buffet.....fish and shrimp were yummy.

Missing our Kansas boys.....Chance and Austin.

Snakes Alive at the Iowa State Fair. Our favorite vacation spot. Always an annual trip through Snakes Alive, just like the big slide, old mill and the sky glide.

Iowa weather - March 5th, 2014....same picture of ten days ago with no change. Actually added a little snow.

Wonder what is in store for us this spring and summer!

Snowing again, I remind you it is March 5th, 2014

Nick stated it was going to snow, he wants to go snowmobiling. Will it every stop and warm up!

Set of twins today

Momma with one.  Other is in heated barn waiting for its new momma.  Funny how mother nature works! Not such a bad day after all!

Lost first calf of the season.....first calf heifer.

Went out at ten, then at two a.m. to find one new calf.  Out at six a.m. with one calf on the ground and another heifer birthing.  The heifer birthing was trying to calm the other calf by being over bearing and pushing the calf around.  If the zero temps weren't stressful enough.  The calf was breathing when I arrived and pull it away from the dispute but died before I got it to the heated barn.  The birthing heifer had calf a half hour later and is doing fine.  Heifers can be a challenge at times!

Beat her at the run around game!

I won......you got love heifers.

Monday mornings new arrival, the last one of the February's embryo group. Let the March embryo group begin...ha, they have already!

Jason, our city slicker assisted pulling so I could get to my office job this morning.  He even went out with Montana to check cows at ten and two.  He did a great job....told him I would be there for him anytime if he needed me at his business. Mondo's Saloon in Iowa City, do you think I could bartend or wait on tables, well absolutely!
